Time Out Tavern
3 of 5 Stars

5101 W. Lovers Lane
Dallas, TX
(214) 956-9552

The Time Out Tavern is Cheers without the laugh track.  The “TOT” - as regulars call it - is a sports bar with no food, just plenty of cold beer and an occasional shot of Old Overholt enjoyed by a faithful throng of regular customers.

When the door opens a bell rings.  All eyes go to the door.   Intimidating at first, after a few visits you will be welcomed by people and staff that will know your name.  It is not uncommon to know virtually everyone in the joint, even on busy weekend nights.

The TOT has become a popular meeting place before and after a game, despite the fact that appetizers consist of peanuts, Cheetos or pork rinds.   Proprietors Kevin McCormack (hockey fan) and Al Merry (horse racing fan) make sure that sports is the focal point of the bar and will have homey pot luck parties for big events like the Super Bowl.

Shuffleboard and pool can occasionally become a high stakes game, but are always played with seriousness and great skill.  A jukebox provides the musical ambiance with Junior Brown king of the two plays for a dollar machine.

Located on the “other” side of Inwood Road toward Love Field, the TOT is a haven for the upper crust Highland Park crowd providing a dichotomy from the normal high-tone haunts they frequent.   Open at 11 am, the TOT also provides one of the ever-dying places where you can get an afternoon cocktail.

God bless the TOT. Take a shot. Eat a brat.

I don't get it. The place reeks of smoke, the beer choices are extremely limited and the clientele is well, NOT the Cheer's crowd. I have no problem sitting next to a smoker, but it's the worst in there.

I would have insisted on a TOT prenup!

Beautiful scenery meets beautiful people. Deep, crystal clear blue waters meet deep pockets full of green. What more can you ask of a very colorful resort bar?

It's OK to wine at bars
Wine and bars have never been comfortable with each other. There are wine bars, of course, terrific ones, and fern bars, where women sip white wine, and even hotel bars, where anything is possible.
